055 [Situation] On Trohoughton Hill 2 1/4 miles S.E. by S. [South East by South] of St. Michaels Church Dumfries
This is a Roman Camp Situated on the farms of High Kelton and Trohoughton its shape is that of an oval or a square with the corners a little rounded but it is so much defaced by the process of cultivation that its original Shape cannot be properly distinguished Some parts of the ramparts & fosse Still remains although much destroyed by ploughing. J. Carruthers formerly tenant of Trohoughton says that about 40 years ago it was surrounded by two ramparts & a fosse between, all apparently quite complete, he also States that it has been always considered, by the intelligent in the neighbourhood, a Roman Camp William Martin Tenant of Boreland farm states the same thing. That it is a Roman Camp appears to be the belief of all the intelligent persons acquainted with the locality
