A Small village on the eastern banks of the River Nith and about one Mile S. [South] of Dumfries, , It's houses are well built varying from 1 to 2 stories in height. It has 3 public houses a grocers shop, a Bone Mill & a Woollen Mill the latter giving employment to about 150 persons. Close to the village on the River Nith is a small Quay affording a Mooring place for about 12 vessels of about 60 or 80 tons burthen. -
