A tolerably sized building erected 1753 by James and William Moorheads Merchants Dumfries, its average number of inmates from the last 20 or 30 years are about 30 young and old for each year, and out door pensioners about 20. The young are all well educated and put to trades at their own choice. This poors house or hospital is supported by landed property bequeathed by several Gentlemen, also by Donations & public subscriptions. The annual income averages about £568 expenditure much about the same. It is managed by a Committee, and Matron who resides in the Hospital.
