[North east] of Dumfries - The site of an old Chapel founded by Christian Bruce 1324 on the fatal spot of her husband's execution, Her brother King Robert Bruce granted in 1324 a hundred shillings yearly out of the Barony of Carlaverock for the Support of a Chaplain for performing prayers within the said Chapel .- Its walls are said to have been Appropriated in 1715 to the fortification of the toun of Dumfries against the rebels. The present St. mary's Church is said to be built upon its Site. The following is a quotation from Chalmer's Caledonia " At the entrance into the Shire toun of Dumfries Christian Bruce the King's Sister founded a Chapel on the fatal site of her husband's execution, and in December 1324 Robert I granted a hundred shillings, yearly out of the barony of Carlaverock to a Chaplain for performing prayers, within the Chapel that his Sister had founded for the Soul of Sir Christopher Seton who had been Killed in his Service." -

[Note] - Hugh Christie or Kirsty is generally recognised in the locale as applicable to the Eminence or Mount, yet it seems Altogether out of place to suppose that a Chapel would be a dedicated by the vulgar Abbreviation.
