055 | [Situation] On Camp Hill to the N.W. [North West] of this Plan. This is a Roman Camp Situated on the farm of High Kelton and Trohoughton its Shape is that of an oval Some parts of the rampart & fosse still remain although much destroyed by Ploughing . J.Carruthers formerly tenant of Trohoughton says that about 45 Years ago, it was Surrounded by two ramparts and a fosse between * all apparently quite Complete.he also Stated that it has been always considered by the intelligent in the neighbourhood a Roman Camp William Martin Tenant of Boreland farm States the Same thing. That it is a Roman Camp appeared to be the belief of all the intelligent persons acquainted with the locality. Penant notices the above as a Roman Station. The double ramparts & fosse are still Visible, the fosse & second rampart did not quite encircle the Camp but terminates at the point where the ground falls abruptly. |
