055 [Situation] To the N.W. [North West] of Threshies Close on the West Side of St. Michael St. and leading to the Dock
A narrow Close or Alley branching from St. Michael Street to the Dock, paved And walled in on each Side .- At the end of this Close adjoining St. Michael St. formerly stood an old building 3 Storeys high which was called the Bishops Lodging , which was pulled down about 16 years ago, it being then in a dilapidated state. It is generally supposed or asserted by tradition that it was the occasional residence of the Bishop of Galloway.- It is also said that a small Chapel once stood somewhere near it called St. Allans on the Brae - Any trace of which cannot now be found . It is liKely this Chapel stood somewhere in the vicinity of St. Allans ' Wells.-
