A large Inn built about 120 Years ago three Storeys high and in good repair and is the principal Inn of Dumfries.- has accommodation for About 50 travellers, with Stables Capable of Keeping 80 horses and Coach - house attached.- The Building was originally much Smaller.- The Portpatrick and Dumfries Mail Coach leaves this Inn daily And one returns- Two Coaches go to and return from Kirkcudbright daily one of which Carries the Mail- one leaves for AuchenlecK and returns daily. The Nithsdale Omnibus goes 4 times daily to the Railway Station and returns - Three pairs of Posting -horses Are kept here, Also two Gigs and the phaetons.- This Inn is occupied by John Fraser, who is proprietor.- |
