A large irregular St. being the main one of Dumfries.- It is nearly a mile in length and is very irregular in width- extends from Nith Place on the South to Castle St. Church Place on the North - in it are the best Shops in Dumfries in lines of business.- This St. like others of the Town is paved and drained. - THe Houses are principally 3 Storeys high, the lower apartments all occupied as Shops, the upper Storeys As dwellings.-
