A Small village about 3 miles on the road leading from Annan to Carlisle It Consists of houses principally of One Story high, all in good repair, And occupied by agricultural laborers And Weavers. The population in 1851 was 175. The principal buildings are the Ph [Parish] Church Ph [Parish] School and the Manse. There are two grocers shops two public houses a Post Office and a Smithy, there is also a Corn-Mill - the property of Mrs Nicolson and Dr. [Doctor] Bogie of Annan and John Carlysle Esqr of Dornick.
