062 [Situation] Nearly 1/2 mile N.E. by N. [North East by North] from Kinmount,
Is a large extensive lime works where owing to the superiority of the stone, lime of the very best quality is made, there are four Kilns constantly burning and from 20 to 30 men are constantly employed, the quarry which is contigeous to the Kilns is very extensive and the stone is conveyed by trucks which runs upon a small tram road or railway and which [are] drawn up by the power of Machinery driven by a steam Engine of about 10 horse power. There are a few dwelling houses which are occupied by the workmen adjoining to the lime works which goes by the same name the whole of which together with the Lime Works is the property of the Most Noble the Marquis of Queensberry of Kinmount House near Annan.
