There are old people living in the neighbourhood who remember to have seen the stones standing, one large one in the centre and a circle of smaller ones round it. A gently rising ridge of ground extending from near Tillicoultry House on the north to the River Devon on the south. The portion south of the turnpike road is laid out into a new cemetery. On the north side, and close to the road, is the site of a Druidical Temple. About five yards to the west of the Cemetery gatehouse in a sand pit a small copper axe was found in 1820. |

A large village situated at the south base of the Ochil Hills. It is comparatively modern: the greater part of it having sprung up within the last thirty years. It is celebrated for its woollen manufacture, at which about three thousand of its inhabitants are employed. There are some very good streets, viz., Stirling Street, Ochil Street, Hamilton Street and Mill Street. The turnpike road from Stirling to Kinross intersects it from west to east, forming High Street, in which are the principal shops. The houses are partly one, and partly two storeys, slated, and in good repair. It has four places of worship, viz., the Parish Church, U.P. [United Presbyterian] Church, Free Church and an Evangelical Union Chapel. four schools: three adventure and the Parish School, an Academy, and Popular Institute; two hotels; one inn and three small public houses. Besides the numerous mills worked by steam-power, there are a number of buildings in the town occupied by handloom weaving. |

A rocky and wooded eminence on the south face of the Ochil Hills, and rising very abruptly from the northern extremity of the village of Tillicoultry, there is no trace of either Fort or defensive work of any description on the summit of this height as stated in the Statistical Acct. [Account], neither can I obtain any information in the locality that any object of the sort ever existed there, it is generally supposed that such has been the case, but no one remembers seeing a trace of it. Neither can it be pointed out. |

A chain of hills extending from Bridge of Allan in a northeasterly direction & Abernethy on the Firth of Tay. The south-east side of the range is steep and, in many places, rocky and precipitous. The descent towards the northwest is gentle. The highest point if Bencluch, 2560 feet, lies partly in this parish and partly in the parish of Alva. James Johnstone, Esq, of Alva House, is the proprietor of this portion within this parish. |
