The parish of Clackmannan is in the County of Clackmannan, Presbytery of Stirling, Synod of Perth and Stirling. The parish is in two parts, the largest portion containing about 8840 Statute Acres, is bounded on the West and north by the parishes of Alloa, Tillicoultry, and Dollar in the County of Clackmannan; on the east, by the parish of Fossaway in the County of Perth and the parish of Saline in the County of Fife; and on the South and South West by the parishes of Culross and Tulliallan in the County of Perth; and the parish of Airth in Stirlingshire. This portion contains the parish Church and Village of Clackmannan.
The other portion which is detached, contains a Quoad Sacra Church in the Village of Sauchie and it is locally situated between the parishes of Alloa, Alva and Tillicoultry And it contains about 1028 Statute acres. |

A very antique tower of Square form, Situated a Short distance from the group of houses Known as the Hawtown of Sauchy. It is in a good State of presentation but roofless. "There is another old tower situated on the banks of the Devon, belonging to the Earl of Mansfield. This tower and the estate of Sauchie, with which it is connected, were long in the possession of the family of Lord Cathcart. The Sauchie tower is still more entire than that of ClacKmannan." A river of considerable length which rises in the parish of Blackford, and after a very circuitous course falls into the River Forth a Short distance west of the village of Cambus in the parish of Alloa.
"The source of the Devon is on the northern declivity of the Ochil Hills, and after Running 10 or 11 miles in an easterly direction, it is forced by the relative position of the hills and valleys to make a turn towards the west at a place called the Crook of Devon, after pursuing a westerly course, through a beautiful and romantic country for 12 or 13 miles it pours its waters into the Forth, at a point nearly straight south from the locality of its source["] Statistical Account |
