139.03 ; 139.07 | A large river which takes its rise from a spring in the north side of Benlomond mountain, in Stirlingshire, and, running from west to east, forms that firth, or arm of the German ocean, to which it gives its name. Below Stirling it forms a variety of beautiful windings or links to Alloa, at which place it expands into a considerable bay. It is navigable to Stirling for vessels of light draught. |
