042 | This is a fine specimen of a Pictish dwelling, situated on the summit of a wooded eminence between the waters of Allt an Duin, & the Berriedale River, & it commands a fine view of the surrounding country. Its general appearance is that of a conical mound, surrounded with a wide ditch or fosse, and having an outward embankment sloping inwards. There appears to have been three places of access or outlet. The summit has been partly broken open and shows the interior to have been built of red sand-stone. |
