These swamps have no definite boundry; the ground gradually becomes harder as it begins to slope on either side. All except the pools is covered with stunted heather, slightly intermixed with a rough kind of grass. Sheep or any such animals cannot (in safety) pass through them, except where they are frozen or dried by the heat in summer.
