005 | A Slight eminence Situated about half a mile west of Thurso. MacKay in his History of the House, and Clan MacKay, mentions the following Viz:- There was a large Stone on this hill at one time, and it was erected to commemorate the hanging of the last two of the band of Highlandmen who took part in a Skirmish in Thurso, between Donald Macalister - an Irish-man, who fought under Montrose, - and the Thurso men. This affair happened on a Sunday in the Year 1649. |
