013 A large ''Mound'' apparently the remains of an ancient building it is the opinion of Some that a Bishop lived in it; but from William Miller A.M.'s [Master of Arts] lectures on ''Our Scandinavian Forefathers'' that it was a place where parliament assembled in this locality viz. a Scandinavian Parliament - for ''Thing'' in Norse signifies Parliament - ''Every district had it's ''Thing'' and the poorest ''bondi'', - or land owner - had the right to appear at the ''Thing'' and while there was on an equal footing with the most powerful Earl, or Jarl and even with the King himself. There were some instances of Kings being defeated at ''Things'' by some simple ''bondi''.
