006 An Embankment has been built which cuts of - as it were - a semi-circular portion of the cliff - Entirely inaccessable from the sea -
A considerable quantity of Earth has been dug out on the East side of it - to the depth of 8 or 10 feet - by the tenant of the farm. (see A in trace) About two feet from the surface may be seen the remains of shells - Periwinkles, Limpets etc - in small heaps - which clearly points to the great antiquity of the Broch - two feet of black soil takes a great number of years to accumulate - even in a well sheltered place - consequently it wd [would] take much longer to accumulate on the sea coast - No information whatever can be obtained of it Except that it is an old fort.
