MARKET CROSS [Reay] | Market Cross | 009 | A market cross stands near the centre of the village, it was removed from near the Ph.[Parish] church to where it now stands. The cross is 4½ feet high and has been cut from a block of freestone. The top portion of it seems to have been broken off. The Village is sometimes called New Reay to distinguish it from the old Village, which was near where the Ph.[Parish] church now stands, no vestige of which is now to be seen. The Ph.[Parish] Church & Manse, Parochial School, Post Office and the Inn are about half a mile East of the Village. |
