LATHERON [parish] [continued from page 1] from 100 to 300 feet far above the sea; it is also much indented, in consequence of the numerous streams that flow from the interior, and at their junction with the sea form inlets more or less spacious. The caves are numerous and some of them from 50 to 60 fathoms long. The principal headlands are the Ord, Berriedale Head and Clyth Ness." New Statistical Account. The parish contains several small villages viz, Lybster, Dunbeath, Siviney, Berriedale and Latheron in the latter of which is situated the parish church and school, there are small harbours at Lybster Dunbeath and Berriedale cheifly used by Boats engaged in the herring fishing.
