PICT'S HOUSE (Remains of [Ham 'A'] | Pictish House (remains of) | Robert Campbell, Schoolmaster Dunnet John Swanson, Esq. Ham. Alexander Moodie, Corsback |
001 | A few paces to the west of the Norse Grave Mounds is the remains of a small conical mound, which is without doubt a Pictish House It has long since fallen in and the greater part of it has been removed What remains of it shews some rude building as of a circular, internal building. |
PICT'S HOUSE (Remains of) [Ham: W of 'A'] | Pictish House (remains of) |
Robert Campbell, Schoolmaster Dunnet John Swanson, Esq. Ham. Alexander Moodie, Corsback |
001 | About two chains further west and nearer the sea A conical mound stands somewhat smaller than the above. The side next the sea has been undermined by the waves during a storm which has caused a portion of it to fall down shewing the remains of what appears to habe been the Entrance - It is formed of large slabs set on end - From the general outline I think it has been a chambered cairn probably divided into compartments like the rest of the Pictish Houses which have so often been described |
