Within the latter there is still standing the ruins of a building, which was erected by Kennedy the pirate for the interment of his family about the Year 1677. He having landed and settled on the island a few years prior to that period The vaulted chamber is still entire, but no vestige of remains is there now. After Kennedy's death and burial, his remains were used as a drum - i,e, his belly - by his Son, being his chief Amusement to Kill time in his insulated home. This is spoken of as a well authenticated fact, the saying having been handed down from father to son to the present generation. The petrifaction of the bodies placed in this vault was caused by the peculiar properties of the rocK upon which they were deposited |
