Mr McRae Bowermadden
Mr James Grant. Bowermadden
012 This name applies to a small mound which at first sight one would suppose to be a natural hillock, but upon going to its summit, evident traces of its having been a "Pictish House" are to be seen. The large flagstones which formed the roof of this building are now embedded in the ground shewing about 8 or 10 inches of their edges above the surface, & the surface, & the summit is slightly hollow through the roof having tumbled in. This house has never been opened up and in consequence nothing can be said of its interior. There is a superstitious notion in the minds of some of the people in the neighbourhood of this mound in connection with it. They believe it to be the dwelling of fairies &.c. &.c. and one woman told me that they were to be seen playing on the tops of it every night.
