204.06 | A large and handsome building of the castellated style, the ground floor of which is appropriated as the Prison, and the 2nd contains the Town Hall, Town Clerks' offices, Sheriffs' room and Jury room, with some cells. This structure was built in 1832 upon the site of the Old Jail at an expense of about £4000. It is surmounted with a massive Square tower containing a bell, and a clock with 2 transparent dials, which at night are illuminated with gas. |
