225 | A small spot of ground situated [about] 5 chains south of Catacol (cottages) being the only remaining portion of a field widely known as Ar Fhionn (the chief's or Fingal's field). The Sea is yearly washing portions of it away. now leaving a small portion of it on side of present public road, & indicated by cross on trace, "On the shore of Catacol there was a cairn (now removed) named Aran or Ar Fhinn which is supposed to [mean] the spot where Fingal defeated the norsemen and is said by some to have given name to the island, Originis Par [Parochiales] Scotiae.
