216.14 An enormous rock of Whinstone, Springing from a Steep brae, in a S. [South] Easterly direction to the sea, it has Somewhat the appearance of a Castle wall, The Statistical Acct. [Account] mentions that it reappears again on the Ayrshire Coast and runs through the whole of Galloway Shire.
Tradition attributes the formation of this and a Similar one called the Lion, to the "Deil and Fairies", and is often called in consequence, the "Deil and Faries' Dykes"
