021.01 | A Small village consisting of a collection of dwelling houses one Story high and for the most part thatched, and occupied by Mechanics and farm labourers. There are two places of worship in the village, viz, the Parish Church, and a Free Church, also the Ph. [Parish] School and a Post office. The houses generally, are in good repair, and are the property of the occupiers who pay a small fue duty to John Spottiswoode Esqr. of Spottiswoode. In the centre of the Church Yard, situated in the centre of the village, stands the remains of the old Ph. [Parish] Church; it is now converted into a burying Vault, and several of the family of Spottiswoode are interred therein. |
