Merse (District) Continued
to the general division of
the County just pointed out - the Merse designates
the whole lower ground
from Tweed up the Cultivated Slopes of the lower range
of the Lammermoor hills including the Western
parishes of Nenthorn & Merton - and forming
the largest piece of compact level ground, divercified
only by a few gentle undulations - to be found in
Scotland - Mr Blackadder, estimates this division
to contain 100.226 acres.
