A small parish in Banffshire; is bounded on the north by Crimond, east by the German ocean; South W. [West] by Peterhead and on the west by Longside Parishes. It is in the presbytery of Deer and Synod of aberdeen There are no detached portions of this parish. St. Fergus is a detached part of the County of Banff tho' [though] locally situated within the boundaries of Aberdeenshire. By express statutes such detached parts are held and treated as parts of the Counties by which they are surrounded as regards Election of members of Parliament, Police, Roads, Assessments and Jurisdiction of Sherriffs. But as regards Land Tax. Rogue Money, Prisons' Assessment, regulation of Voters, Land Valuations &c the small modern assessments, following the rule of the Prisons assessment (there being no special provision in these cases) - for the old rule is adopted by which St. Fergus is treated as part of Banffshire: Colonel Ferguson Pitfour House, Parish of Old Deer and James Camine Esqr., Rattery House, Parish of Crimond both in Aberdeenshire, are the sole proprietors of the lands of St. Fergus. |
