008.09 | This name is applied to a mound of stones and earth Traditionally said to be a Druidical Cairn it has been partly opened for Antiquarian research but nothing has been found in it. Tor is a Gaelic word said to signify a mound or cairn. Sliasg is also a Gaelic word said to signify the hip-bone or crest of a hill it is sometimes used for side, and is pronounced in English Sleisk in this instance it would apply to the mound on the crest of the hill it is often called Tarriesleisk but this is a corruption of Tor Sliasg. The same authorities agree to both modes of spelling. |
