015.16 A celebrated holy well much resorted to before it was almost destroyed by the new road which passes immediately above it, it is now only a dirty hole Known only to a few old persons in the locality, there is a tradition that St. Marnoch to whom it was dedicated after performing a severe penance, (going round the bounds of the parish on his bare Knees) rested and drank of its water & from this time it was considered holy.

015.16 Another holy well not far from the above. the name is supposed to be a corruption of St. Peter to whom it was supposed to have been dedicated, Another well called the Lady's Well mentioned in the statistical account has been completely destroyed by drainage and not a trace of it remains, this was not a Holy Well.
