035.04 | A large elm tree close to the walls of the old Castle at Drumin The legend connected with this tree is:- that a faithful servant of the lord of the castle, was hung on one of the branches for refusing to give up the castle when called upon by the enemies of his master during his absence. The castle being taken, he was hung, and in remembrance of this fidelity he was buried by his masters orders under the Castle walls The stone covering the grave is still to be seen. It is said there was formerly a Gailic inscription on the stone but if so it has been completely obliterated by time. |
