An irregular Stone building with one round tower at the South east angle, Small Court Yard, Garden and ornamental grounds, the property of Mrs William Grant. There is no record when this Castle was originally build, but the date 1678 is carved on Stone over the Gateway, Said to have been done when the Castle was enlarged by additional buildings. The old part of the Castle is thought to have been erected about the middle ages from the nature of cement used clay and straw mixed & Strong vaulted roofs, narrow Spiral Staircases and other peculiarities in the architecture common to that age, also from the rotten state of the timber. |
