003.15 The Village of Fordyce stands in the Vale of Fordyce burn, about 3 miles south west of Portsoy, It is a burgh of Barony, under the Earl of Seafield & R. W. Duff Esqr M. P., [Member of Parliament] It received its first charter in 1499, and another in 1592, It contains the Parish church & Manse Free church & Manse. Free Church & Manse. 4 schools. namely Parish school. Free church school, Smith's Academy. and a female school, There is a fair called All Hallow Fair for sheep and cattle held here on the last Wednesday of October, and the fourth Thursday of November, both old style.

003.15 This church was built in 1804, and is at present in a complete state of repair, It is fitted up with pews and a large Gallery and will accommodate about 1100 Sitters.
