004.11 This name applies to some elevated ground on the north of the Old Kirk.
It is believed that an engagement with the Danes took place about here, and that the ground called Arrdanes was the position of that portion of the Danish Army which was armed with Arrows. At a short distance from here (in the Parish of Banff) is some rising ground called Swordanes, and is believed to have been occupied by another portion of the Danish army armed with swords. The New Statistical Account states that
"this parish is said to have been the scene of an engagement with the Danes, at a point near the Old Church.
