004.05 The ruins of an extensive Mansion situated on a high steep cliff on the South side of the burn of Boyne. It still exhibits signs of having been a place of considerable strength and magnificence. It was unroofed about eight years ago; the hewn Stones used for building farm Steadings in its vicinity. Though it was strongly fortified, it is generally named Boyne House, in order to distinguish it from a more Ancient Castle, traces of which are still to be observed, on a bold precipitous rocky promontory on the sea coast, at the mouth of the Burn of Boyne. Boyne house was the baronial residence of the Ogilvies, Ancestors of the Earl of Seafield. [continued on page 11]
