The parish of Rothes is in the Presbytery of Aberlour and Synod of Moray. It is bounded on the North by the Parishes of Speymouth and Elgin & St Andrews Lhanbryd, on the south by the parish of KnocKando, on the east by the parishes of Aberlour & Boharm and on the west by the parishes of Dallas & Birnie. Rothes is partly in the County of Banff and partly in the County of Elgin, The portion in the County of Banff contains about 899 Statute Acres. There are no detached portions of this parish, neither are there detached portions of any other parish within its limits. "A peninsular district of it, little more than a mile in extent, lies at the foot of the hill of Benagen, on the right banK of the Spey; and all the rest extends along the left banK of the Spey" Fullarton's Gazetteer.
