Surmounted by a Globe marked with the usual meridians and parallels, to commemorate the achievements of Ferguson the Astronomer it was begun about 1835 by Mr Grant then proprietor of Aberlour House in order to give work to a number of poor people then out of employment and in a very destitute condition. The Globe was placed on it merley as Complimentary to the Astronomer and is not regarded as a Monument for him or Any other Special object And in consideration of such it has never attained any local name further than Column. |
