022 A small but rapid stream which takes its rise from surface water near Harperscroft, parish of Dundonald, flowing in a N.E. [North East] direction and falls into the river Irvine near Caprington. For about a mile and a half it forms the boundary between the parishes of Symington & Dundonald. It passes through a marsh near its source called the "Slough of Despond" from which circumstance no doubt the name is derived.
