022 A small but neat & pleasantly situated village about seven miles North of Ayr & 5 1/2 South-west of Kilmarnock. It stands about the centre of the parish of that name, [&] contains a sub-post office. 3 [public] houses, 2 churches & 2 schools, [free] & established. 022 It is difficult to ascertain the exact date of its erection. It underwent [a] considerable repair & received an [adaptation] in 1797. It is now a commodious building capable of containing [about] four hundred people.
