013 On a small knoll on the South side of Swinzie Burn, a Castle of this name formerly stood; the residence of a branch of the family of Cunninghame. A slight hollow is all that marks its site now. Mr. Chalmers told me that it was burned to the ground about the time of the Reformation. and that a new house was built where the present garden is. & which he assisted to remove about 36 years ago.

The ruins nearly leveled by the hand of time, of the Castle of Robertland, fomerly the
stronghold of the Cuninghames, Baronets of Robertland, are situated behind the modern
Mansion of Alexander Kerr, Esqr. of Robertland. This stronghold it is said, was destroyed
by fire, in a feud between Montgomeries of Eglinton and the Cuninghames."
