Messrs. Graham (Writers, Glasgow) Robert McKie Esqr. Mr. Andrew Picking (Junr.) [Junior] New Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] |
012 | A very small farm (3 fields) with dwelling house, barn & byres - the property of Mr. Graham Barnes - It being entirely surrounded by the lands of Lainshaw, the literal meaning of its name as also the names of several adj. [adjacent] farms, and other singular circumstances, led me to suspect that this small estate before the reformation belonged to the R.C.C. [Roman Catholic Church] forming as it were 'Church with Glebe - I applied to the factors for information, they were unable to furnish any. I also saw Mr Picking, the tenant, and he pointed out the spot marked on trace as showing great indications of a small building having stood there. The color of the ground marks out a rectangular & square , very stony, and agreeing with the cardinal points. |
