A parish on the coast of Cunningham, Ayrshire. Its name is believed to have been derived from Stephen, or Steven, Son of Richard Loccard, who acquired a grant of the lands from Richard Morville, Lord of Cunningham, about 1170. It is bounded on the W. [West] and north by Ardrossan ; on the South by the Firth of Clyde; on the East by Kilwinning & Irvine the River Garnock. which separating it for about 3 miles, from the parish of irvine; and on the Southeast by the confluence of the River Garnock and Irvine There is no part of this parish situated within any other parish, nor is there any detached portion of any other parish situated within it. The antiquities are few and not very interesting-
