The only thing worthy of notice about the building is a stone built in the kitchen fire place taken from the Ruins of Borland Castle having thereon the Initials H M 1677 M H which letters represent Hugh Montgomerie and Margaret Hamilton his Wife |

It has been traditionally Recorded in this Neighbourhood that a Roman Camp was on this hill and with the exception of Robert Dalgleish the Authorities quoted consider from what their fathers stated that the place marked on trace is at or about the Spot, previous to the hill being ploughed the place bore the appearance of Artificial Construction which is now defaced, but the fact of its proximity to a Cairn a little North impressed on the memory of the Authorities Sufficient proof to point out the Site
Robert Dalgleish considers the Trig [Trigonometrical] Point on Avisyard Hill the Supposed Site but the Supposition Should be received cautiously as he is not a Native and only a few years resident in the locality |

This dwellinghouse has been occupied by a family of McCrone for upwards of 500 years, the present occupier Janet McCrone is the only Surviving branch of that family.
From Successive repairs there is nothing in the appearance of this house to indicate its age, the only relic of the R [Roman] Catholic Chapel which stood about 120 links West of the house is a curious Curved Stone about 3 feet long built in the Sidewalk of house. See trace |
