041.07 | A handsome monument erected over the grave of three Covenanters who were shot near the spot in 1685. It is enclosed by an Iron railing, together with the original gravestone, which is fixed on the South Side of the monument The following is the inscription on both. Here lies Joseph Wilson, John Jamieson and John Humphrey who was shot in this place by [a] party of Highlanders for their adherence to the word of God and the Covenanted work of Reformation. 1685 |
