BOWER HILL | Bower Hill Bower Hill Bower Hill Site of Chapel |
J. G. Hannay Alexander Henderson Rev. [Reverend] William Menzies |
032 | An elevation of about 200 feet above the level of the Sea, from which it rises abruptly on the north Side in a bold and rocky Cliff - The Heads of Ayr - To the east and west it terminates in Steep grassy Slopes - to the South the fall is gentle. It is isolated from the high lands which rises towards the South by a Narrow Valley No part of which is higher than 50 ft above the high water Mark. Near the base of this hill and on its South Side the Site of A Chapel is Still pointed out by the people in the Neighbourhood. There is nothing indicative of a Chapel ever having Stood on the Spot except a few large and apparently very old ash trees. |
