County of Ayr -- Parish of Loudoun
Loudoun Castle. What is perhaps erroniously
called the old Castle of Loudoun was, according
to tradition, destroyed by fire, more than 300
years ago, by the Kennedies of Carrick, headed
by the Earl of Cassillis. It may have been one
of the strong holds of the family, but the present
seems to have been always the principal residence.
