018 The Remains of this Ancient Church are Situated in the Western part of the Parish and not far from Galston, a portion at the east end is yet entire and kept in repair by the Loudoun Family and has been long used by them as a place of Sepulture. this part is generally called 'The Quere' it is prnounced as if so written, by Quere is, very probably meant Quire, which means, that part of a church, in which the Singers Sit. The side walls are completely removed, except, those of the 'Quere' or Quire no part of them appearing above the Surface, but the west gable is yet standing. The Characters DRC appear cut on stone on the North and South sides of the 'Quere' what these characters mean is not known. It is not known when this Church was erected but it is believed to be of very ancient date.
