017 | A parish in the extreme Northwest of Cunningham, Ayrshire; it contains about 37¾ square miles, or 24,160 acres. It lies along the coast of the Firth of Clyde for nine miles. On the North it is Bounded By the parishes of Innerkip and Greenock; On the east, by Kilmalcolm, Lochwinnoch, and Kilbirnie; on the South, by Dalry and West Kilbride. and on the west by the Firth of Clyde. Its breadth is not more than four miles. In it are Some antiquities Such as Castles Cairns etc, it is also the site of the famous battle of the Largs, fought in Oct. [October] 1263. of which see their descriptive remarks in the following sheets. There is no portion of this parish situated within any other parish, or no detached portion of any other parish Situated within it.- |
