03.12 The Stone which Stood at the place marked on Trace, was removed by the late Dr [Doctor] Cairnie and fixed in His garden wall, and bears a Latin Inscription on a Small brass plate, bearing the date A.D. 1823. The stone is reputed to Commemorate the place where Haco the Norwegian Chief fell, at the Battle of Largs,and is about 10 feet high by 2 wide.
The persons quoted in the list of authorities say it is supposed generally that the vicinity of this Stone was the Chief Scene of the contest.

"Near the spot now inclosed as the
gardens of Dr. [Doctor] Cairnie, there stood
a rude Stone pillar, which was
reputed as commemorative of the
Place where Haco, the Norwegian
Commander, fell. The Stone has
been built by Dr. [Doctor] Cairnie in his garden
wall, and now bears a Latin inscription
for which see New Stat Acct [Statistical Account]"
